About White Chaunsa

White Chaunsa appears in agricultural sources as Sufaid, Safaid or Safeed Chaunsa. Official trade material describes whitish-yellow flesh and late availability. Sammar Bahisht, Kala (Black) and Azeem Chaunsa are separately named selections, so it is worth knowing which Chaunsa you are buying.

A popular naming tradition links Chaunsa to Chausa in Bihar and Sher Shah Suri’s victory there in 1539. It is a good story, but a tradition rather than a documented pedigree for modern White Chaunsa.

Its late season is the thing to know: Punjab’s Mango Research Institute lists White Chaunsa from mid-August to mid-October, long after the first summer varieties have gone.
